Heat Your Home for Half the Cost with a Coal Boiler!

Imagine…heating your home for half the cost that you are currently spending.

Frey Construction & Home Improvement, LLC is a dealer for Alternate Heating Solutions—Coal Boilers

The Coal Gun™ Coal Stoker Boiler is the result of Alternate Heating Solutions (AHS) technology and the urgent request of commercial and industrial management. For businesses dependent upon large volumes of process hot water, or needing large areas heated comfortably through either forced air heat, steam heating, hydronic heating or radiant heat, the Coal Gun™ coal boiler offers an effective, efficient and relatively low cost solution. The average commercial application will pay for itself within a two year period, and we believe that the Coal Gun™ is the most efficient coal boiler on the market today.

Or smallest model (S130) will provide heat for an entire home including domestic hot water at 50% or less than the cost of conventional oil, gas or electric systems.

Stack Temperature: The stack temperature is an indicator of how completely the fuel is being combusted.  The Alternate Heating Systems Inc. Coal Gun™ Stoker Boiler operates with one of the coolest stack temperatures of any coal boiler on the market (if not the coolest).  The stack temperature of a Coal Gun™ runs at approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  The low stack temperatures of our boilers are almost unheard of on the market.

How the Coal Gun™ works…

Clean burning anthracite coal can be transferred from the coal storage bin to the hopper by means of a spiral auger, or the hopper can be hand-loaded.  Depending upon conditions, using just the coal hopper (with no auger) and hand loading the hopper, the Coal Gun™ can operate unattended for up to 7 days.  The coal is fed by gravity from the hopper into the coal inlet tube.  Other than when using an auger, there are no moving parts in the coal feed mechanism making the system very reliable.  The only moving part that touches any component of the coal is the grate, which removes the ashes; and the Coal Gun™ grate plate has a lifetime warranty.  A fan-induced draft pulls air through the combustion chamber and fire tubes, spinning it through the swirl chamber and into the cyclone separator which removes most fly ash, dropping the ash onto the grate system. The fan also creates a vacuum in the unit eliminating most fly ash leakage. The Coal Gun™ is clean, safe, trouble free and operates on pea and buckwheat-sized hard coal.

Fuel Consumption…

The amount of fuel used depends on many factors including the weather, type of installation, and building construction.  Due to its high efficiency, however, the Coal Gun™ coal boiler uses less fuel than other units on the market and will substantially reduce your annual heating costs.  The average residential home (2500 sq. ft. with moderate insulation) can be heated using only 4 – 5 tons of coal annually, and that includes heating the domestic hot water.

Alternative Heating Solutions (AHS) Quality…

Every AHS coal boiler is manufactured from the highest quality materials by highly trained, dedicated technicians. Every unit is tested extensively before it leaves the factory to ensure its adherence to our high standards of quality.  Each Coal Gun™ comes complete with all controls necessary for operation and safety.  All motor and drive mechanisms are totally enclosed.  Standard equipment includes an insulated boiler jacket, totally enclosed motor and drive systems, primary and backup aquastat thermostats (hot water units), low water cut-off on commercial units (models S500 and above), and a pressure relief valve (steam units).

Our Coal Gun™ boilers are some of the most durable heating units available. The commitment to quality leads to a long boiler life (some reported at 26 years and counting) and years of hassle-free operation. The bottom line is that a quality-manufactured AHS coal stoker boiler will save you both time and money in your heating application.

2010: Don’t miss out on home improvement tax credits!

In early 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was enacted as part of a plan to stimulate the economy. The bill grants tax credits to homeowners who make specific home improvements during 2009 and 2010 that meet certain energy-efficiency guidelines.

If you made home improvements in 2009, make sure that you have what you need to claim the credits on your 2009 taxes. If you missed out in 2009, these credits still apply for 2010. Start planning now so that you can take advantage!

Here are some of the basics; for detailed information go to to

The eligible improvement must be placed in service or work must be completed between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. A maximum of $1,500 can be claimed for qualifying products. You must have a Manufacturer Certification Statement for the product in order to qualify. Save receipts and the Manufacturer Certification Statement; for new windows, keep the Energy Star label. Improvements must be made to your principal residence. However, certain products also qualify for second homes. Claim improvements made in 2009 on your 2009 taxes using IRS Tax Form 5695. Tax credits for windows, doors, insulation, roofs, HVAC, and non-solar water heaters are not available for new homes. Certain other improvements do qualify for new homes.

Items that are eligible for the tax credits include:

Exterior windows, skylights, storm windows, and doors that have a U factor below 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, or SHGC, of less than 0.30. Certain types of insulation – specific lifespan and warranty requirements apply Energy Star brand metal or asphalt roofing – specific lifespan and warranty requirements apply, Central air conditioning Furnaces – either natural gas or propane Heat pumps, Hot water boilers, Hot water heaters – either gas, oil, or propane Biomass stoves Photovoltaic solar panels Wind energy systems Residential fuel cells and micro-turbine systems

All qualifying products must meet certain energy-efficiency levels; thus, not all products qualify for the tax break. Only those with higher energy efficiency ratings are eligible, and these products typically cost more than standard products. Also remember that the $1,500 maximum (as a percentage up to 30% of the cost of the upgrade) is cumulative for ALL improvements.

If you’re thinking about making home improvements this year, the time is definitely now! Frey Construction can provide you with additional information on qualifying products and exceptions.
